Abraham, Leonard (b. 22 Jul 1895, d. 2 Mar 1961)
Note: Extract from "Landscapes of Change" by Dr. Tony Matthews.

Leonard Abraham was born at Hemmant, Queensland in 1896 and later served during the First World War, being wounded in October 1918. Abraham drew a block at Mannuem and for a while worked the land. It was during this period that he became
interested in accountancy and joined the accountancy company of H. C. Muston & Son of Kingaroy where he trained to gain his qualifications. In 1939 he opened his own accountancy business in Nanango and in 1941 married Elsie Muriel Green. He
became Acting Shire Clerk of the Nanango Shire Council when Bob Morris joined the RAAF in 1942 and remained in that position until 1945 when he returned to his accountacy business.

Also in 1942 Len became President of Trustees of the Nanango Shire Patriotic Society, the main role of the Society being "to administer funds to help active or discharged defence personnel and their dependants, or the dependants of those killed
in action." Len's further involvment in civic affairs in Nanango was his appointment in 1945 to a committee to manage the Council's Public Library.

The Press later reported of him: "Some 10 years ago.......Mr. Abraham suffered a coronary occlusion and grave fears were held for his recovery......however he managed to continue in reasonably good health.

"A keen and successful golfer and later a lover of bowls, outside the sporting area he was an interested member of the local RSL and a distinguished member of two Masonic Lodges.

"Two sisters, Mrs Thomas and Mrs Lennox [Bundaberg] and one brother Mr Lennox Abraham [Buderim] are the only surviving members of his immediate family....."

Green, Mary Godfrey Elizabeth (b. 14 May 1868, d. 1 Sep 1939)
Note: After having four sons, the Greens had their first daughter when Mary Godfrey Elizabeth was born at Mondure Station on 14 May 1868. Their fourth son, John, had been born 13 September 1866 at Mondure but died on 2 February 1867. Arrival of a
daughter after that loss was no doubt a happy occurrence.

Family movements would have seen Mary living at Mondure, Barambah, Toowoomba, Nanango and Milton, a suburb of Brisbane. It was in the adjoining suburb of Toowong, at St Thomas's church, that Mary married a Hely on 6 December 1893. Mary was the
first of three Greens to wed at that church, the second being her sister Ellen Frances Green, who married Mary's husband's brother in 1895 and the third being Mary's brother, Charles, who married in 1896. It is interesting to note that the
wedding was held on the day after her father, who had been living away from the family at Charleville, was readmitted to Dunwich Benevolent Asylum.

The church register records that Mary Godfrey Elizabeth Green, Spinster, born at Mondure, Burnett Qld, no occupation, age 25, residing at Toowong, parents William Benjamin Green, Station Manager, and Elizabeth Alford married Arthur Leslie
Hely, Bachelor, born at Sydney NSW, occupation Clerk, age 27, residing at Kate Street, Sandgate, parents Hovenden Hely, Grazier, and Gertrude Mary Church. The register was signed by the bride and groom, witnesses were Elizabeth Green [mother
of the bride] and Thomas Alford [uncle of the bride]. Officiating Minister was V.R.Handyside.

Children of this couple were -

Hovenden Leslie Hely - born 9 November 1894 at Toowong Qld. He married Elizabeth Westmorland in England. Hovenden died on 11 November 1963 at Brisbane. Elizabeth died on 30 September 1984, also at Brisbane.

Dorothy Adeline Hely - born 17 March 1896 at Toowong Qld. She married David Victor Wagner on 20 May 1925 at Sandgate and their children were Joyce Dorothy 5 July 1926 at Gayndah Qld, Ina Mary 19 July 1928 at Maryborough Qld and David Leslie 11
December 1930 at Gayndah. Dorothy Adeline died on 8 July 1987 at Kingaroy Qld. David Victor died on 11 November 1983 at Brisbane.

Edward Strickland [Peter] Hely - born 1 June 1898 at Townsville Qld. He married and children born were Arthur, Norman and Jill. Peter died in 1983 at Brisbane.

Green, John Alexander (b. 6 Mar 1870, d. 5 Jul 1944)
Note: The Greens' first daughter, Mary Godfrey Elizabeth, [after four sons] had not reached two years of age when Elizabeth Green's fifth son, John Alexander Green, was born on 6 March 1870 at Mondure Station. Not a lot has been found about this
member of the family, mainly because he does not appear to have had any dependants from whom information could have been obtained. However it is known that he did not pursue a life on the land as his brothers did, but he became a Banker.

Wilderness to Wealth reports that the Royal Bank of Queensland opened a branch in Nanango in 1900 and the first Manager, William McLeod, "was succeeded by the late Mr.J.Green". Information from the National Australia Bank, which absorbed the
Royal Bank, states that J.A.Green was "Acting Manager at Nanango on 28 May 1902 and he remained there until 1903".

Next record found is the church register of marriage of J.A.Green. This ceremony occurred at St.Marks Church of England, Warwick Qld. on 5 November 1905. Details are - John Alexander Green, Bachelor, born at Mondure Station, Burnett District
Qld., occupation Bank Clerk, age 35, residing at Brisbane, parents William Benjamin Green [Deceased], Station Owner, and Elizabeth Alford [ Deceased], married Bertha Selke, Spinster, born at Bodumba Station, Merivale Qld., no occupation,
age 34, residing at Warwick, parents Julius Selke [Deceased], Auctioneer and Jane Eliza Perry [Deceased]. The register was signed by the bride and groom. Witnesses were F......Marley, Hugh P.Bergin and F.H.Selke [brother of the bride]. The
Officiating Minister was .......Jenkyn.

John Alexander Green died in Brisbane on 5 July 1944.

Information found about Bertha Selke follows.

Bertha Selke was born at Bodumba Station Qld. on 23 September 1870. Her parents were Julius Selke and Jane/June Eliza Perry who had married in 1859. Jane Perry's parents were Captain Samuel Augustus Perry, who in 1846 was Deputy
Surveyor-General [Pioneering Into The Future] and Caroline Johnson. Selke children were -

Edward Augustus 28 June 1863, Fanny Mary 8 May 1865, Arthur Julius 29 May 1867 [died 1939], Charles Maurice 2 July 1868 [died 1907] Bertha 23 September 1870, William Alexander 20 September 1872, Frederick Henry 3 January 1874 and Walter 30 June
1876.

There are some Notes held in Family History papers which mention the origin of Bodumba Station, which was west of Warwick. It was taken up by St.George Gore, a barrister in Sydney, who moved into Queensland "close behind the Leslie Brothers"
who are recognised as Queensland's first squatters. Gore returned to Sydney and "brought back his family, stock, a nurse girl and two ticket-of-leave men", by oxen drawn dray. The Notes state that the Overseer of Bodumba was "Selke" and a
bookkeeper was "Marley". Also "Selke had full charge of Bodumba".

An F.....Marley was a witness to the Green/Selke wedding.
